Cooking up a storm in Bangkok

As I mentioned in a previous post, Georgie and I did a cooking class last Wednesday at the Silom Cooking School. We had a great morning with our hilarious chef/teacher, Jay, who first took us to the markets, gave us all little shopping baskets and proceeded to fill them full of fresh delicious produce that we were to turn into our creations. The menu for the day was Pad Thai with prawns, spring rolls and green papya salad (a favourite of mine), red curry with chicken and for dessert, deep fried bananas in a coconut batter. While the food was delicious, Jay was the highlight of the day; think of a cross between 'Ben' from Big Brother and 'Dr Evil' from Austin Powers. He had Georgie and me in stitches most of the time. Why the title "Cooking up a storm"? Because at the end of the lesson as the class finished off the red curry, a storm hit and the staff quickly lowered the heavy plastic blinds on the balcony where the cooking was taking place. This resulted in pungent curry fumes and a steamy fog that you can see in one of the pics. Stinging eyes all round.
